Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

The f*** is this s***?

Seen this pop up and was somewhat excited 'cause I actually liked what Cloverfield was going for, it wasn't a fantastic movie but it was good and a sequel would have been great.

This looks pretty much like The Divide which I bet is a far better movie.

Cloverfield sequel that will probably have nothing to do with Cloverfield, awesome.
From the looks of it it's a post apocalypse thing after the Cloverfield incident did bad stuff, a non standard monster movie was a cool idea with the first but this is just stupid as a sequel.

At least it doesn't have the humongous mother of the baby from the first one, like so many fans thought.

I'm not going to like it, for sure. It doesn't have Kaiju? Then it's not gonna be fun.

Compared to the new Godzilla movie, this has nothing to offer me.
Why would you waste this wonderful monster, Abrams? You did SO well with Star Wars! This should be easier!

Yeah this is just absolute nonsense, the trailer clearly isn't like 15 minutes in to the movie either she goes out near the end.

My guess is that we'll see some sort of monster at the end which will be sequel bait for an actual monster movie but nobody is going to want to watch it because this movie will be boring crap.

I dunno if you guys watched a different trailer than I did or something, one that shows absolutely everything that happens in the film, but I thought it was deliberately vague enough so that we would be kept in the dark about most of it. You know, like how the last Cloverfield was marketed?

Pretty sure the original trailer for the first one showcased it was a monster movie. This one doesn't aknowledge it, which is bad for those who were expecting a sequel with another monster.

Or maybe they're just comfortable letting people assume that, since it's a Cloverfield film, it's going to have a big monster in it, because the last one did and that was kind of the whole thing.

If you watched a Godzilla or King Kong trailer that didn't have any shots of the titular monster in it, would you go "THIS IS BULLs*** WHY WOULD YOU MAKE A KING KONG MOVIE WITHOUT KING KONG" or would you put it down to marketing?

I don't think there's one monster movie trailer that doesn't show the monster, bro.
This would be the first, heh.

Cloverfield doesn't.

1:26 is gives a faint glimpse at a monster but aside from that it's all left to the imagination. Just like this new trailer does. Do you need big rumbling foot steps and soldiers to tell you there's a monster? Most people can get by on context.

You need to make it seem like it's a monster movie. Otherwise people who haven't seen the first one won't understand what this one is about.

Like I said it's pretty clear the trailer isn't just up to the 15 minute mark so if CLoverfield or any other monsters is in the movie at best we'll probably get half an hour of it doing stuff.

Which hardly makes for a good monster movie.

Seriously watch The Divide the setup is pretty much identical. The Divide as far as I remember is about 3 people, 2 men and 1 women locked in an underground area after a nuclear apocalypse or something. They all start going a bit crazy and eventually one of them decides it's time to leave and then at the end, shock reveal!

I don't even know how this would function as a movie, what's the goal? With the first it was an initial attack and people were trying to survive, with the next part typically they're trying to kill the monster with some kind of weapon or other nonsense some whackjob makes/discovers.

So yeah all things point to this being some sort of psychological thriller with maybe a bit of monster action 10 minutes before the ending.

Again, that's a fair guess, but that's all it is; a guess. You could argue equally well that the trailer is a condensed and stylised account of the first 15-20 minutes of the film, and then there's over an hour of monster business. That's what I was led to believe in fact.

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

Yeah, Sousen's right. You can't know how much, or how little, the trailer shows of the film's storyline. Sure, you can say 'this trailer doesn't make me want to see this film', but until you've seen the film you can't say 'this film is s***'.
